NovoBytes MTP FAQs

Q: What is NovoBytes MTP?

A: NovoBytes MTP is a multi-time write block that is based off of Novocell's patented OTP anti-fuse technology.  The NovoBytes MTP block gives users the ability to program an off-the-shelf OTP/MTP hybrid block up to 8 times with a limited area increase. Additionally, custom configurations are available for up to 1000x writes.

Q: What problems does NovoBytes MTP solve?

A: NovoBytes MTP gives users a multi-time write ability with the added benefits of OTP security and reliability.

Q: What are the benefits of using this hybrid OTP/MTP IP solution?

A:  The OTP/MTP design bridges the inherant gap between Flash (EEPROM 1,000+ write) Designs and OTP (One Time Write) designs with very limited area increase (~60% area savings).

Q: Why would I use NovoBytes MTP when I could use multiple OTP blocks?

A: By putting down multiple OTP memories you are repeating circuitry and adding redundancy.  With Novocell's patented Smartbit antifuse bit cell as the basis of the NovoBytes MTP design, we can add multiple antifuse devices without the area increases of multiple blocks.

Q: Are there any additional liability concerns?

A:  The OTP/MTP hybrid design utilizes the Novocell SmartBit bit cell which has been extensively qualified and tested.  Any process or geometry in which Smartbit OTP technology is qualified; the NovoBytes MTP design will have the same functionality and reliability.

Q: How can you get such an area savings with NovoBytes MTP?

A:  Due to the unique, patented Novocell SmartBit bit cell design which has an integrated breakdown detector and voltage generator,  additional antifuse devices can be added to individual cells without significant area increases.
